BACKEND AND APIs

The backend your mobile app needs.

We build APIs, authentication, data synchronization, and cloud infrastructure for mobile apps. We account for unreliable connections, older app versions, and changing traffic.

$ ls ./deliverables

Mobile backend development: scope of work.

We agree on the deliverables for your project. These are the areas we can help with.

API design & delivery

We design and document versioned REST or GraphQL APIs so app and server releases can be managed independently.

Authentication and accounts

We implement Apple and Google sign-in, token refresh, access roles, and account recovery.

Real-time features and push

We build socket connections, presence features, and push notifications, with handling for ordering, duplicates, and device targeting.

Sync & offline support

We implement conflict resolution and endpoints that send changed data, helping clients catch up after time offline.

Cloud infrastructure

We set up containers, infrastructure as code, a staging environment, and deployment rollback procedures.

Monitoring & cost control

We add tracing and alerts, review infrastructure costs, and tune queries before increasing capacity.

$ ./build --steps

How we approach the work.

We plan the scope with you and review progress together as the work develops.

  1. Data & contract design

    We model the data and agree on the API contract so the mobile and backend work can proceed together.
  2. Services & endpoints

    We build typed, tested services behind documented APIs and use feature flags to manage their release.
  3. Auth & hardening

    We assess threats, restrict endpoint access, and penetration-test features that handle money or personal data.
  4. Load & performance

    We test representative traffic patterns, review caching, and tune database indexes.
  5. Deploy & observe

    We set up automated deployments, dashboards, and incident runbooks for the team operating the service.

$ man mobile-backend

Questions, answered.

Firebase or Supabase may cover what your app needs. We consider a custom backend when the data model, compliance requirements, or expected costs call for a different approach. The choice starts with your roadmap.

Yes. We review the API contract and how the app handles failures, then add what the mobile client needs. That can include pagination, fetching only changed data, and errors the app can handle clearly.

We load-test before launch and design the backend so more servers can share the load as demand grows. We keep the initial setup proportionate to the traffic the product needs to handle.

Your team can run it, or we can provide support under a retainer. We hand over infrastructure as code, dashboards, and operational documentation so the people maintaining it have what they need.
